Vinyl Wraps

Vinyl wrap vs. paint: which is right for you?

Quick answer

For most drivers who want a new color, a vinyl wrap is the better choice: it typically costs less than a comparable-quality repaint, is done in days instead of weeks, protects the original paint, and can be removed later. Paint makes more sense when the existing paint is damaged, or for a permanent restoration.

When a wrap is the better choice

  • Your factory paint is in good shape and you want to keep it that way.
  • You want a finish that's hard or expensive to paint, like satin, chrome or color-shift.
  • You lease your car or plan to sell it in a few years.
  • You want to change only part of the car — roof, hood, mirrors or chrome delete.

When paint is the better choice

  • The paint is peeling, oxidized or damaged — vinyl needs a smooth, healthy surface.
  • You're doing a long-term restoration and want a permanent finish.

What about protection?

A wrap shields your paint from UV and light scratches, but it isn't designed to stop rock chips like paint protection film. If you love your factory color and just want to protect it, PPF and ceramic coating may be a better fit than either option.

Common questions

Is a wrap cheaper than paint?

Usually, yes, when you compare a professional wrap to a paint job of similar quality. Very cheap paint jobs can cost less than a wrap, but they won't look or last like a quality wrap.

Can you wrap over damaged paint?

Minor imperfections are fine, but peeling clear coat, rust or deep chips will show through and may lift when the wrap is removed. We inspect your paint before quoting.
